In recognition of the importance of sport and physical activity to the student experience, Kingston University decided to replace their 35 year old existing pavilion and construct a new sports pavilion at Tolworth Court. Crispin & Borst, in partnership with Trinity Environmental Services were awarded this project back in April 2009.
The new pavilion consists of a two-storey structure containing 14 team changing rooms, each with their own shower facilities and toilets; two changing/shower rooms for disabled users; male and female officials’ changing rooms; first aid/treatment room; reception, office and storage areas; spectator/visitor toilets; lift; and first floor social area and roof terrace.
The building has been designed to make use of various green technologies including:
- a ground source heat pump (supplemented by gas-fired heating appliances as necessary); and
- solar thermal panels for hot water heating.
Trinity were responsible for the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of these specialist new technologies alongside other mechanical and electrical services including underfloor heating, a PIR activated lighting control system, intruder alarms, CCTV, fire and disabled alarm systems.
