Trinity, once again working with Cundalls, were tasked with the replacement of the 24 hour chillers, associated pumps and pipe work at National Grid in Northampton. These works involved the installation of a temporary chiller to allow us to inter connect the current 24 hr chilled water circuit and the 9 - 5 chilled water circuit as a means of providing temporary cooling to the building during the course of the project works. Once the inter connection was completed the temporary chiller was removed and the building brought back under control by use of the cross linked chilled water service. We then removed the redundant chillers and relevant pipe work, the old 24 hour pump sets and pressurisation unit.
We replaced them with the latest generation of 300kW Turbocor series chillers from RHOSS/Coolmation, complete with new Grundfos NB series pumps and a Grundfos twin circuit Impress pressurisation unit . Once completed and the new system commissioned, the inter connecting pipe work was removed. The innovative new valve configuration we designed allowed us to return the building to having two separate chilled water circuits without the need of a temporary chiller during the course of that phase of the works.
