This was the first project Trinity secured with McAlpine/Carillion and formed part of the huge Middlesex University campus in Hendon. The job was won via competitive tender which was swiftly followed by a value engineering exercise involving a catering contractor who was procured directly by the University. All parties worked closely together and liaised directly with the caterers in order to optimise the scheme.
The project comprised complete conversion and refurbishment of the existing student sports hall into a 2 storey building split by means of a new mezzanine floor. The ground floor contained a brand new gym, canteen and kitchen area, nursery and baby facility and the second floor housed the plant room.
The M&E programme ran for 16 weeks and included a completely new plant room housing 2 new gas fired boilers, 4 air handling units, a new Daikin VRF heating and cooling system and all associated pipework. One particular challenge was the need to carry out local pipework modifications within the existing 'live' plant room. This was located in a completely separate building that originally served the sports hall and other campus buildings. A new supply was routed from there to the new roof plant room, all the time maintaining the existing mechanical services to the rest of the campus.
Associated electrical services included provision of a new Mains switch panel and distribution boards, lighting schemes, fire alarm, access control, CCTV and security systems.
